resonant space

In Stevenskerk (Nijmegen), Amber Meulenijzer built an in situ / sur mesure sound installation.
Its architecture, resonances and ambient sounds were amplified by an organic installation of metal horn speakers and a metal plate capturing all the vibrations in and around this magnificent echo chamber. A breathing feedback composition filled the church.
For this session I played a hurdy-gurdy (draailier) through a guitar amp and that signal was absorbed and returned by the installation. not a concert. The session became a multi-layered dialogue between the sound installation, the physical space, the two artists, an organist and the voices of people visiting the church throughout the day.
